knownAs.dev terms of use
Version 1.2 · Effective date: 17 October 2026
1. The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Authecity Systems LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company, 1650 West End Blvd., Suite 100, St. Louis Park, Minnesota 55416, USA ("we", "us"). They cover your use of knownAs.dev: the website, the console, the API and the agent identities you create (the "service").
You accept them when you create an account, or when you accept an updated version. You must be 18 or older. If you use the service for an organisation, you confirm that you may accept these terms on its behalf, and "you" includes it.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. The service
knownAs.dev gives AI agents an internet identity:
- a name under
knownas.dev; - a reserved, secure (HTTPS) name for each of your agent's services. Once you prove you control a server, we forward that name's traffic to it. Forwarding is metered, and an agent that exceeds the traffic allowance shown in your console is suspended until you resume it;
- a public profile saying who the agent is and who is responsible for it.
One agent identity is free. To hold more, you buy seats (section 9).
The service is in beta. It may change, be interrupted, or have features added or removed. We will try to give notice of significant changes.
3. Your account
- Keep your API keys and sign-in links secret. Anyone holding them can act as you.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Tell us at once at security@knownas.dev if you think a key or your account has been compromised.
- Give us an email address you can receive mail at. We use it to sign you in and to send notices about the service.
4. Your agents and their public profiles
- You are responsible for your agents and what they do, including everything done through the identities we provide.
- You are responsible for what you publish in a profile. It must be accurate, and you must have the right to publish it. Profiles are public by design.
- You give us a worldwide, royalty-free permission to host, publish and display your profiles and related details as needed to run the service. It ends when you delete them, except for copies in logs and backups, which expire as described in the privacy policy.
5. Names
- A name (e.g.
your-agentinyour-agent.knownas.dev) is not property. It is a permission to use that name under our domain while you follow these terms. You may not sell or transfer names except through a transfer feature we provide. - Some names are unavailable: platform names, and names that match or imitate protected brands. We may refuse any name.
- We may suspend or reclaim a name that infringes someone else's rights, impersonates a person, organisation or brand, or misleads. Where reasonable, we will tell you first.
- After you delete an agent, its name is held for 30 days before anyone can register it again.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use the service, or let your agents use it, to:
- Impersonate anyone, or mislead people about who is behind an agent.
- Send spam, or run phishing, fraud or scams.
- Distribute malware, or attack or disrupt any system or network, including ours.
- Break the law, including export-control and sanctions law. Do not infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights.
- Get around our limits: quotas, rate limits, your account's identity allowance, reserved or protected names, or the invitation requirement. That includes using several accounts to do it.
- Test our security without permission. Report issues to
security@knownas.dev, as
knownas.dev/.well-known/security.txtdescribes. - Use the service in a way that harms the reputation of the shared
knownas.devnamespace, which every user depends on.
7. What we may do
If we reasonably believe you or an agent has broken these terms, or to protect users, the service or the public, we may:
- suspend or remove an agent or its profile;
- suspend or close your account;
- revoke keys.
Where the situation allows, we will tell you and give you a chance to respond. To appeal, write to ops@knownas.dev.
8. Artificial intelligence
Our commitments (the privacy policy, sections 11–13, has the detail):
- No training on your content or data, by us or by our providers.
- No AI decisions about you. The service does not use AI to make decisions about you, and uses no high-risk AI system.
- Disclosed AI in operations. We use an AI assistant (Anthropic's Claude) to help build and operate the service. It may process personal data while doing so.
- Nothing new without notice and consent. We will tell you before any feature uses AI on your data. We will not start using data we already hold for AI training or any new AI purpose without your agreement.
- Labelled AI. We offer no AI system that talks to you. If we ever do, it will say that it is AI.
Your agents are AI systems, and you are responsible for them. Where they are used, you must follow the AI laws that apply to you and to them. That includes:
- Telling people they are dealing with an AI when an agent interacts
with them, unless it is obvious, where the law requires it. For example:
- the EU AI Act, Article 50;
- Utah's Artificial Intelligence Policy Act;
- Colorado's AI Act.
- Labelling AI-generated content where the law requires it, for example synthetic images, audio or video, or text published to inform the public.
- Not using agents for prohibited AI practices, for example those listed in Article 5 of the EU AI Act: harmful manipulation, exploiting vulnerabilities, social scoring, and unlawful biometric categorisation.
- Meeting the extra obligations for "high-risk" or "consequential" uses if an agent makes, or substantially helps make, decisions about people's employment, credit, housing, insurance, education, healthcare, legal or essential services. That means impact assessments, notices, a right to appeal or to a human alternative, and risk management, as the EU AI Act, the Colorado AI Act, California's automated decision-making rules and similar laws require.
- Giving the notices and honouring the rights that privacy laws require when your agents process personal data. For those purposes you are the controller (or "business") for that data, not us.
An agent's public profile describes the agent; it is not a disclosure on your behalf. It does not replace any notice the law requires you to give.
9. Fees and paid plans
One agent identity is free: every account may hold one, with no card and no time limit. To hold more, you buy seats on a plan. Each seat lets your account hold one more identity. The Plan card in your console shows your allowance and what it is made of.
Prices
| Seats on your plan | Yearly plan, per seat | Monthly plan, per seat |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 9 | US $12.00 a year | US $1.50 a month |
| 10 to 49 | US $9.00 a year | US $1.13 a month |
| 50 to 500 | US $6.00 a year | US $0.75 a month |
- Every seat on a plan is charged at the price for the plan's total. For example, 10 seats on a yearly plan cost $90 a year.
- Prices exclude taxes. We do not charge sales tax or VAT today. If the law requires us to, we will tell you before we add it to an invoice.
- A plan can have up to 500 seats. For more, write to support@knownas.dev.
- Price changes: we will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your plan. It applies from your next renewal after that, never to a period you have already paid for. If you do not want to pay it, cancel before that renewal.
Buying a plan
- Only a person can buy. A plan is started, changed and cancelled only by a person signed in to the console. API keys and agents cannot start a plan, add seats or cancel.
- Stripe takes the payment, on its own pages, as our payment processor. We never see your card number. The seller is Authecity Systems LLC, trading as knownAs.dev. Charges appear on your card statement as KNOWNAS.DEV, and Stripe emails you a receipt for each one.
- New seats count once Stripe confirms the payment, usually within a minute.
Automatic renewal
Your plan renews automatically at the end of each period, every year or every month as you chose. At each renewal we charge your card the price for your seats, until you cancel. For a yearly plan, we email you a reminder about 30 days before each renewal.
Cancelling or changing your plan
- You can cancel at any time, online: choose Manage billing on the Account page of your console, then cancel the plan. Or write to support@knownas.dev from your account's address, and we will cancel it for you.
- A cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Your seats work until then, and nothing more is charged.
- Adding seats, or moving from a monthly to a yearly plan, takes effect at once. You pay straight away for the rest of the current period.
- Removing seats, or moving from a yearly to a monthly plan, takes effect at the end of the current period.
Refunds
Payments are not refunded, including when you cancel, remove seats or delete your account part-way through a period, except:
- if we charged you by mistake;
- if we stop the service, end the beta without launching, or close your account without your having broken these terms: we refund the unused part of the period you paid for;
- where the law requires a refund.
If you are a consumer in the UK, EU or EEA, the law where you live may let you cancel a new plan within 14 days. You ask us to start the plan at once, so if you cancel within those 14 days, we refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the time already used. Write to support@knownas.dev.
If a payment fails
- Stripe tries again over the following days and emails you. You can update your card under Manage billing.
- We email you once, saying which identities will be suspended if the payment is not made.
- If it is still unpaid when Stripe stops trying, the plan ends, and identities beyond your remaining allowance are suspended, newest first.
What suspension means: a suspended identity keeps its name, but its public profile says only that it is suspended, and traffic to its services is no longer forwarded. Nothing is deleted. Paying, or starting a new plan, brings suspended identities back, oldest first, up to your allowance.
Your account is never suspended for non-payment. You can still sign in, and your free identity and any founder allowance keep working.
The same rule applies whenever your account holds more identities than its allowance, for example when a plan ends or has fewer seats.
Founder allowance
If your account existed on the day paid plans started, it keeps a founder allowance: as many identities as it held that day, free, for twelve months from that day. Your Plan card shows the number and the end date. We email you at least 30 days before it ends. After that, identities beyond your allowance are suspended as described above, unless you add seats.
Deleting your account when you have a plan
- When you confirm the deletion, your plan is set not to renew. It ends at the end of the period you have paid for, and the time left is not refunded.
- If you cancel the deletion during the 30 days before your account is erased, your plan is still set to end. To keep it, renew it under Manage billing on your Account page.
- If you choose to delete at once, the plan ends with the account.
- In every case, the plan ends no later than the day your account is erased, and nothing more is charged. The privacy policy says what happens to your billing details.
The beta
A paid plan does not change the beta addendum: during the beta the service may change or be interrupted, and there is no promise of uptime. If we end the beta without launching, the refund in point 2 above applies.
10. Our intellectual property, and feedback
The service, its software and the knownAs.dev name and brand belong to us. These terms give you no rights in them beyond using the service. If you send us feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.
11. Ending the agreement
- You may stop at any time by deleting your account in the console or by emailing privacy@knownas.dev. Section 9 says what happens to a paid plan.
- We may end it for breach of these terms, or if we stop offering the service. If we stop the service, we will give at least 30 days' notice where we can, and refund as section 9 says.
- When the agreement ends, your agents' identities stop working and your data is deleted as the privacy policy describes.
- Sections 4 (for content already published), 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15 continue after the end.
12. Disclaimer
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation, to the fullest extent the law allows.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill.
- Our total liability for all claims about the service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
14. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Authecity Systems LLC, and its officers and personnel, from third-party claims, and the resulting losses and reasonable costs (including legal fees), arising from:
- your agents, your profiles or content;
- your use of the service in breach of these terms; or
- your breach of any law or of anyone else's rights.
This does not apply to the extent a claim is caused by our own breach of these terms or our own negligence. If you are a consumer in the UK, EU or EEA, this section applies only as far as the mandatory law of the country where you live allows.
15. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer in the UK, EU or EEA, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in its courts.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect and ask you to accept the new version. If you do not accept, you may close your account before they take effect.
17. General
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement about the service.
- If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- You may not transfer these terms without our consent. We may transfer them as part of a reorganisation or sale of the business, with notice.
- We send notices by email to your account's address, or in the console. Send notices to us at the address below.
